I wish someone would have given me these 5 blogging tips when I was starting out, it would have saved me a lot of time!
1. Pick a Niche/ Genre & Try to Stay Focus on That!
When starting a blog you should already have your primary goal in mind. Rather its to inform people or share your experiences, or both. I always ask the question “What would your top 3-5 categories be?” For example I started off with my site being more like a “lifestyle/ business” blog (all over the place) but over time it has reshaped to be more of a business/ entrepreneur like website. Although I wrote about various things I enjoyed. I got more hits on my site when I wrote about business topics. Even on my Social media accounts, I was receiving more DMs on business-like questions/ideas. Also when you have more of a specialized topic your SEO ranking for those keywords is likely to go up faster as well.
2. Be Authentic
You always want to remain yourself and write about things that interest you but also informs! For example you do not want to blog about cooking because it is trending this week on twitter, however, you hate cooking and the thought of yourself picking up a pan disgusts you! Ask yourself, What are your passions and interest – from there you can decide on your categories and pinpoint what you will blog about! Remeber blogging “ain’t easy” if it was everybody would have one! Be true to yourself!
To my fellow new bloggers , do not get discouraged. Stay consistent & focused!
3. Bomb A#* Content is Key!
With each blog post, you need to not only inform but it needs to be well thought out and delivered very well! Original content will always rank best and garner the best traffic. When you have exceptional content people will share, repost and this will increase your traffic. During these days I found that not only does your blog post need to enlighten but your graphics need to pop off the screen as well! I advise using Canva to create Pinterest pins and also blog banners!
4. Consistency is a Must!!
YOU MUST KEEP YOUR BLOG UPDATED AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE! Now trust me when I say this sounds harder than it sounds! Try your best to post once a wk or more to keep your readers coming back for more. I suggest writing your blogs in advance, then creating a “posting” schedule. I try my best to write my blog or at least my topics in advance so I won’t fall behind schedule. Out of all of the 5 blogging tips , please try to keep this one in mind.
5. Make Sure your Optimizing Each Blog!
If you’re new to blogging then you need to familiarize yourself with SEO (Search Engine Optimization). Start with identifying a few keywords to sprinkle throughout your blog post. However you mustn’t insert too many unneeded keywords (you will get penalized for that). Great ways to optimize your content are to make sure every image contains an alternative text, mobile-friendly, and that it links to other web pages. In addition to these features I suggest downloading the Yoast plugin if you have a WordPress site.
Please keep these 5 blogging tips in mind when you are creating each blog post! Over the past few year I have learned so much about blogging, thus the reason I started this blog post!
